Read the letter to Metro Board of Directors signed by over 40 organizations in support of the Community Safety Approach to System Security and Law Enforcement motion introduced by Metro Board member and LA City Councilman Mike Bonin. If approved, the motion will create a Transit Public Safety Advisory Committee, which will be charged with developing a community-based approach to safety on transit. The motion proposes to shift resources away from police officers toward alternatives to armed law enforcement response, transit ambassadors, outreach and services for unhoused individuals, expansion of fare discount programs, and supporting street vending on transit plazas.
